Key Points About Ingredients:

  • Baby fava beans are sweeter and more tender than mature favas and do not require the tough outer skin to be removed after blanching.
  • A good quality extra-virgin olive oil is essential here — it acts as both a seasoning and a binding element for the fava bean topping.
  • Rubbing a raw garlic clove directly on toasted bread infuses gentle garlicky flavor without the sharpness of minced garlic.
  • Parmigiano-Reggiano adds a nutty, salty depth to the fava bean mixture — use freshly grated for best results.

Key Nutritional Insights:

  • Fava beans are an excellent plant-based source of protein and folate, supporting cell health and energy metabolism.
  • Olive oil provides heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, particularly oleic acid, which is associated with reduced inflammation.
  • Parmesan contributes a meaningful dose of calcium and phosphorus to support bone health.
  • Fava beans are rich in dietary fiber, which aids digestion and helps promote a feeling of fullness.
